I was petting my 1 year old silkie rooster and felt a large bump on his back, I pulled his feathers back and found this

It's the texture of something like a dried sea sponge and it's yellow in color.
I have cut the feathers away from the area and put peroxide on it.
Does anyone have any idea What this is?
I have been researching but have had no luck.
Thanks

That looks horribly infected. It could have started from an ingrown feather or a wound that got infected out in the field somewhere.

If he were my bird, I would bring him inside and give him a bath or at least bathe the area this is in very well. I would put on some gloves, pour some rubbing alcohol over this and I would try and squeeze that gunk out of there or dig it out somewhat. As long as you don't dig into any live flesh, there shouldn't be much pain. You will need someone to help hold him, I am sure. But get as much of that gunk out of there. If you use things like tweezers or dental picks, etc...sterilize everything in boiling water for 5 mins and give them a soak in alcohol.

Then I would use plenty of hydrogen peroxide for this first time only, and then apply some antibiotic ointment to it. If you have a hen saddle or even some sort of cotton scarf you can cover it with to help keep crud out of it, I would put something over it.

And then daily I would check it, clean it and reapply antibiotic ointments to it. Hopefully it doesn't go systemic.

Good luck and I hope you can get this cleared up soon! :)

Thank you so much! I will do all of the above!!!! I have cleaned it best in could after the photos and have used running alchol on it.
I'll run to the store for antibiotic oniment and find some sort of cover to use on him!
I'll do all I can, I'd hate to loose him, he is a wonderful boy!

Thank you again!

Keep us posted! Sometimes it helps to document the healing with pictures. It can be hard to see just how it has progressed by looking at it every day. But a picture of the wound every few days and you can see if it is at all healing. I did this with an injury that took a very long time to heal, but I was able to watch it improve each week with pics. Just a suggestion.

Good luck and please keep us posted!! :)

Up date on day 5 of treatment,
The swelled up lump is gone now it's down to fresh pink meat and a little blood.
I have been doing saline wash, prozide, rubbing alcohol and straight table salt.

It's scabbing over

Thanks for posting and I'm glad that you have seen so much improvement. That looks like it could have been an abscess near or on the oil gland.
