Hatching eggs, I need to know everything!

Do you know what. I'm going to get a brooder plate. I know they were designed for chicks and they are reliable. And they look cute too

but the one question I can't find an answer to is how do you change the temperature?.
And instead of building a wooden brooder box would a cardboard box do? And after they have hatched and dryer off how long do I have to wait to hold one?x

The temperature is set and can not be adjusted. The height of the plate (adjustable legs) sets the temp. Chicks will go in and out and regulate there own temperature. One word of warning with heater plates or mama heating blankets the area outside of the heater must have good lighting. I made the mistake once of using a heater pad cave and didn't have any light over the feeding area. (shed was not dark but not day light either) It turns out that they will not leave the cover of the heater unless the area is well lit. Thankfully I know that if the chicks are noisy there's something wrong it just took me a hour of watching to realize they were not leaving the cave so I added a light over the feeder (thinking they needed the area heated) and they all came scrabbling out to eat and drink. Then it dawned on me what the problem was so I added a small led light near the feeders and they were happy to come out eat then return to warm up.

You can hold them after they are dry but you have to remember that they need to stay warm and a happy chick is either sleeping or eating.

Thank u so much for the reply, well I've got two places I can either put the brooder Box, a large cupboard under the stairs which has light, or in a caravan where the temperature drops frequently x
