A True Newbie....

Thread Starter

Hi, my name is La Tonya.  My husband and I are looking to build a chicken coop and run for our new chickens.  Now, granted I might be ahead of the game as we don't have chickens yet....but I want to be prepared if possible...

This is something very new for us so we will need all the suggestions and help we can get.  I know this is a trial and error but we are so excited....and nervous at the same time.

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele

Hi La Tonya, :welcome

Check out the coops tab for some great ideas you might want to incorporate into your coop:

http://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

If you have questions about your coop and/or run, you can ask them here:

http://www.backyardchickens.com/f/9/coop-run-design-construction-maintenance

A couple important things to keep in mind...make it as predator-proof as possible (no one wants to experience the loss of their flock) and make it as big as possible (big enough for you to move around in it, big enough the chickens don't feel crowded and big enough you can add more birds at some point).

It's nice to have you here!

Stay Calm  Backyard chickens is here.   It's a good idea to have the coop/ run  or brooder ready BEFORE getting any birds.  Much less stressful   than getting chicks/birds and not knowing where to put them or what to do.   "Raising Backyard Chickens," forum is another good place to read up.  Welcome to BYC
