It sounds like you have everything ready now all you need is the ducks.

Can't wait to see them. Are any of them going to be crested like Tevye.
Ooops! missed this one first pass, sorry. Nope, no more crested. Tevye will retain his "special" status. 1 Pekin, 1 Buff, 1 KC.

Kaine is my lead drake. He is actually a very good drake, and he takes his job very seriously. He controls the flock. Puts them in their house at night. Faces off all threats real or imagined. And of course makes sure all eggs are fertile

.

Around the middle of last summer, his hormones kicked into high gear and he started chasing Tevye (my other drake) and attacking Greta. Around the beginning of September he tore out about a 3" patch of feathers from the top of Greta's hind end. We had him in and out of makeshift jails in an attempt to make him behave / protect Greta and Tevye.

From the end of September to the beginning of February, the hormones subsided and he behaved like the sweet but authoritative drake we had come to love. Then he started up again: chasing Tevye and attacking Greta this time early on, he bit her elbows enough to cause minor bleeding.

We love him a lot and so do our ducks (believe it or not, even Greta does). So we are setting him up with a semi-permanent jail until he either mellows or we can find a solution. He can see the whole flock and they often lie down beside him. He actually seems quite content there. In fact his incarceration seems to bother the girls in the flock more than it does him. I guess by duck standards, he must be pretty hunky.

At least once per week, he gets parole. I call it that because he is released from jail under supervision, until he violates his parole (chases Tevye or attacks Greta). Unfortunately this usually leads to him being mobbed by the girls. In fact one time, I opened the door and he stepped outside. Tella and Ettie (my two Rouen girls) immediately charged him with heads bobbing. He walked back into the jail and looked up at me like he wanted me to shut the door. I did and he laid down and relaxed while the girls objected.

Today I decided to get his release on video because I think it is rather funny. This time it was actually pretty mellow and he is only mobbed about 1/3 as much as he is in the worst cases. Additionally he gets a few breaks where everyone rests.

@Amykins in this video Mystique (blue runner in the right center of the title screen) does some of the high speed runner chatter I have referenced in other places. Listen when she gets a real fast rat-tat-tat-tat going. Now picture 2 or 3 runners doing it at the same time (but not in sync) - the BPM is off the chart!

I loved it! Thank you for the tag, Tony. I love the girl runner sounds. And Kaine is a chunk hunk stud drake burd. I laughed at the girls going after him. Then they follow him into the water. They definitely find him very attractive. But Tevye is so gorgeous and perfect. Plus he's so cute and mellow and has a very sweet face. He is a big man bird.
