Our Sulmtaler just layed her first egg a couple days ago! Yesterday, she layed her second egg! After 8 months of patiently waiting, we were thrilled to find an egg in the laying box! We are still waiting for our Bielefelder to start laying as well. Right now, the egg laying score is Austria-2, Germany-0 :) Now, we want to eat them. I was told by a friend to eat the first one raw. Does anyone know the benefits of that? I also read about blowing out the egg & draining it, then saving the egg shell. This is our first time hatching & raising chickens, so to finally see the product of our loving labours is just amazing!

Congratulations!!! I don't eat raw eggs. There is no benefit to eating an egg raw. Fried up the first egg I got and my grandson ate it. Some people do blow out the first egg and save it. Some decorate the egg after blowing it out and use it for a Christmas ornament. It's really up to you.

My family just ate them and enjoyed our first experience of truly fresh eggs from happy hens! Did not save my shells, used them in my garden but I took a lot of pictures!
