Chicken Coop Project

Ha ha, I like the chicken gate. When I introduced five pullets to my flock of two, they lived underneath the wired off poop-board for several weeks. They still aren't a single, happy integrated flock yet, but the wire is gone and the feeder is back under the poop board. How many chicks did you get?

And what kind?
This "together apart" system I have seems to be working. Even worked with turkey chicks. Before then new coop, I introduced young turkeys into the flock when the turkeys were as big as the hens. They killed one the first night!

The mixed bag of black 'n' white chicks you see are the 20+ we hatched last year in a Hovabator. They were sired by an Australorp rooster (Morpheus--my Avatar) and a mix of my Australorp, Americana and Brahman hens. The Aust-Americana X's came out with gorgeous plumage!

The all-white flock of chicks are Cornish-X. I usually get the Cornish-X as 3 day old chicks, 25 in a shipment, and raise them to 4-8 wks old on nothing but chick starter.

Thanks. The little rearing pen is just some 1/2" plywood joined at the corner with a 2x4. so it's free standing and portable. When they're big enough to climb over it, they're big enough to have the run of the joint.
