Yellow feathers and staining

So, I'm tired of seeing yellow feathers on some of my birds. Before it was just my Easter Egger who is yellow with a bit of black under-feathering, turning up with some ugly yellow splotching and coloring... now it's my Barred Rock rooster, who's whiter parts are getting a yellow under-tone. Is it just the sun doing this, or could there be something else causing it? I know it's probably just a vanity problem, but.. well, I'm vane with my chickens. I hate the yellow!




My white crested pekin isn't having this problem. They all live and eat the same things, drink the same things, have the same amount of sun exposure, they're all locked into the same coop at night. My duck is pristine white.

They dust bathe everywhere. They're favorite parts (when the ground isn't muddy and frozen) is under the coop where the grit is very loose. But I also have an old wheel burrow that I fill with dirt that they like climbing into and fluffing around. It's due to be filled again, but my ground isn't exactly scoopable atm lol.

I like the wheelbarrow idea, pretty cool!
Was just wondering about the dust bathing, my BR girl looked similar to your guy's feathers a couple days ago, but I saw her wallowing (dust bathing) in some mud

we've had quite a bit of rain. The main part of my run is covered and dry. She took another dry bath with everybody else yesterday and looks much better. So I was thinking he may have found himself a mud puddle

It could be mud staining.. the coop had become a huge mud pit and I only just recently loaded it up with straw. The ducks were a mess but they're perfection now.. but my poor white EE has been ugly stained since she was young. The staining on my Roo is new, though. He was very clean cut before.
 
I suspect with your EE it is just "bleed through" of coloring in her feathers. I don't know much about the breeding of EE but I do know they use different "parent stock" to produce them, so the are a mixed breed. Depending on how old she is, if she's young, when she goes through her adult molt and gets new feathers she may have even more yellow. It's unique just to her I suppose. Take a look at the pics in the breeds forums, there are a few that have the yellow or rust showing.

See, now that's pretty and something I could get behind! I think she's almost 9 months old. She was born April 28th. I think a few of mine are molting, but not sure, its only a bit under the feathers and on their back. If she molts and comes out with a more uniform gold rust instead of spots that would be great!

She had so much potential when she was tiny:

Such a cute face!!

I think it's just her coloring. She is a cutie! She more than likely won't go through a hard molt until next fall. Sometimes feathering comes in a bit different after molt, sometimes not.
I just love her beard, she looks like a sweet girl.
