My new girls

I sold my rooster. :/ he jumped his pen fence yesterday and launched the worst attack on me he's ever done. And when I gave him a little time to calm down and I went to try and get him back in his pen he attacked me AGAIN. O_0 he was gone that evening. I'll miss him in my own silly stupid way but it was the only thing I could do short of culling him myself. :(

That reminds me of a friend who got miffed at an Emu. He threw a rock and broke its leg. Emu doesn't taste all that great.
Hello Joe. I am a little surprised you are into Q and not fond of Emu. I consulted for an Emu ranch doing Recipe development to help market the meat. For an entire summer, the only Red Meat I and my family ate was Emu, I was given 200Lbs to experiment with. Very lean, high in protein and with a good rub, smoke and a reverse sear to Med/Rare, is as tasty as a great Beef Steak. A Fan Filet from the leg is similar in size to a Tri-Tip but much more trender. The taste is so close to Beef that I did a blind test at a family function and no one could tell the Beef and Emu apart. My Dad, raised in the families butcher shop, was blown away by how great the Emu was...JJ

Well, it's all in the prep and the cook. I din't think he much of either though.
I'd try it again done by a pro.

That's both good to hear and bad, I was secretly hoping he would get better for you. I'm surprised you didn't do him in yourself, he would have made me that mad.

I was hoping the same thing, but he just got worse and worse. :( I really considered doing him in myself if I could not find a taker. :/ I was pretty upset that he was willing to scale a fence to skin me. I'm sad it got so bad, but it's a relief that I can be in my yard in peace now.

Some breeds are more mellow. Plus don't handle them as chicks, keep the boys slightly Leary and fearful of you, so he can grow up knowing you aren't a chicken who needs his attention.
