Weak chicken, is she sick?

Perhaps these edited pictures will help. Perhaps not.

The first one shows just the food hole, and the second shows the tongue and air hole.

As for the topic itself, it is possible for one bird to be ill from a worm infestation even though all of them share the same environment and are ingesting the same worm eggs. As with humans, some chickens have sturdier constitutions than others.

That's a start anyway! Have you been able to identify the worms? Be sure to use a broad spectrum dewormer like the ones i mentioned in earlier posts.. Worms, especiallysomething like Capillary worms can be extremely hard to get rid of. Also, when you deworm them, if they have a bad case, a lot of times the worms will give off toxins when they die off in large numbers, and this can make the bird sick too, so just be aware that if she doesn't recover right away, that might be wny. I've found that ZyfendA ( all- natural and available at feed stores) is good stuff in helping the birds deal with problems they might encounter during a worm infestation. It is not expensive, and I think it helps them recover from the worms and deworming, with less problems, and that's what it's marketed to do. . You mix the ZyfendA in the drinking water, and a little goes a long way. After I deworm our flock, I give them Zyfend A in their water for the following week. Give it to your sick hen, too. Also, it is best to deworm the birds again, ten days to two weeks after the first deworming. And then, every six months thereafter. If you use anything but Strike 3 to deworm, check the withdrawal time, usually two to three weeks after medication is finished before you can eat eggs ( we always make it three weeks). .

Thank you so much, we have strike 3 and she is looking a bit better. We even saw her interested in her food a little bit! We have also been giving her garlic to help and continued with Apple cider vinegar in the water as we usually do. I will look for the ZyfendA at our feed store. I noticed the Strike 3 doesn't say how long we should add it to the feed for. 1 week or more? Any suggestions on how many days we should be adding it to the food?

When I use Strike 3, I use up the whole bag on the flock , but we have a flock of 39 birds. If your flock is smaller, I would use the Strike 3 for two weeks, or until it runs out, whichever is first. Every day. It won't hurt them, no matter how long you use it, really. . But it would be better to use something stronger on your sick hen, because she probably won't get enough of the Strike 3 to make much difference. Use Valbazen or Panacur for her, and dose her orally by pulling on her waddles and ladling it into her lower beak, as was described earlier on here. I can buy Panacur suspension from our vet here for around $8.00. Or get the Safeguard goat dewormer and get someone on here to tell you the dose for that for your hen. Glad to hear she's doing a little better.
