I have 16 Cayugas and for the most part they laid dark grey to light grey eggs when they first started laying. As time goes by the get lighter until they are anywhere from off white to white. These are the first full dozen I got about a year ago. Also, as they get older they will begin to develop white feathers (often but not always). I refer to mine now as my Pinto ducks. Also, the dark on the eggs is really just a coating and can be scraped off...note the scratches on some of the eggs below that happened when they roll them around in their pen.

Mine lays green eggs. So anything from black to green to a tinted color is normal. Usually when my girls first starts laying it's a stalker green and lightens up a bit throughout the season.
