Hi guys,

I bought this cockerel from a friend who has had good success with him at local ag shows. However I'm wondering whether he is good enough quality to show at a higher level? I have a few of his progeny below as well. Both silver duckwings out of a silver duckwing hen. He is a blue duckwing. Your opinion would be well received. Thank you.




 
The short answer is no.
He looks to be hatchery stock. His condition and color is so bad it is hard to tell much about him and the front shot of the young birds don't tell us much.
As far as I know there are no exhibition strains of Blue Golden Duckwings out there, and all Duckwing varieties don't do very well in good competition. They are a very difficult variety to breed.
If you were to breed them and want to improve them you are going to have to raise about 100 birds a year, cull down to the best 5-10 and then repeat this for about 5 years before you see any real improvement.
 
Thank you, this was recently after I acquired him and he went through a pretty serious molt. She bred him herself and is not hatchery stock. Here are two of his young stock at a bit of a better angle. Will try to get better side shots today.
