alternative heat?

You understand the principle behind a solar oven? Or how about that original little girls' oven using just a single light bulb a bunch of decades ago? What was it called, Suzie Homemaker?

They both function by magnifying the heat source using reflective materials. Like the Mylar "space blanket" I mentioned in my above post. That's the only way I see a 25 or 40 watt electric light bulb working well enough to heat 25 chicks.

I don't think the heating pad cave is a good idea for this situation. (ooh, OUCH! Did Blooie really say that??) Unfortunately I don't have anything really constructive to offer. But I'm just intrigued enough to do some digging and see what scathingly brilliant ideas I can come up with!

We got pretty creative last year.. This is our second full winter in our little cabin. Raised 4 groups of chickens and 1 group of guinea meets last year..

With so many projects going on this year I don't have the ability to do what we did before..

If I could get a bloody hen I would but none of my girls every go broody...

This year I'm specifically raising a couple chicks for broodiness next year. You may want to consider the same :) For this year (momentary hijack) oh Blooie, I got myself the heating pad, I spent a few nights reading the MHP thread and I'm ramped up about it. So thank you
Oh, goodie! Another member of the Broody Brigade! Don't forget that when you get your chicks you have to pay your dues - photos on the MHP thread!!
