HYGROMETER & THERMOMETER SUGGESTIONS....... (Click to show)
you may want to pick up a hygro/thermo that has a high low temp reading on it as well... that way you can see what it swings to at night.
READ what the accuracy is on the one you want to purchase FIRST (example: Accuracy to ±0.9°F (±0.5°C))
READ what increments the temperature tracks!! (example: reads to 0.1ºF NOT 1.0ºF)
AND MAKE SURE its Switchable between ºF and ºC. or whitch ever you need!
Is it calibrated or can it be calibrated?
NOTE: Some incubators, even expensive ones may have "hot spots" or "cool spots" depending on air circulation inside the incubator.
Probe thermometer & water weasel (Water Wiggler, Water Snake) found on Amazon or Ebay make for EXCELLENT internal temp guides! The perfect internal temperature of an embryo is 99.5 degrees. If you can't find a water wiggler you can make your own with ziplock filled with water folded in half and insert the probe in the center middle.
Examples of thermometers and hygrometers
I personally like to keep a digital one that also keeps track of “highs and lows” along with 2 incubator thermometers AND a PROBE! It depends on how scientific you plan your hatch!
More Important than make/model is CALIBRATION.
It NEEDS TO BE SPOT ON!

Ambient Weather WS-03-4 Compact Indoor Temperature and Humidity Monitor,
(they have smaller sets/singles)
BGB Liquid in Glass Thermometer
I use cold packs folded in half to put my sticks and probes in, not water wigglers/snakes
I like to go with min 3 thermometers and 2 hygrometers... different kinds, but I always have one of these... they've stayed rock solid for me...

- Enclosed bottle ensures accuracy and is ideal for use in environmental chambers
- An individually serial number is printed on the thermometer stem
- Nonmercury blue spirit liquid
- Accurately monitor temperatures in freezers, refrigerators, incubators, ovens, and other environments where stability is required. All thermometers are supplied in a glass bead filled unbreakable plastic bottle and can be removed from the bottle for recalibration. Use the magnetic attachment with pressure-sensitive backing to attach the bottle to a metal wall or door.
Thermometers feature permanently fused markings, blue spirit liquid, white background glass; are also individually serial numbered. Include an statement of accuracy and a triangular-style antiroll fitting.
HAS ANYONE USED AN EGG O METER?
When using the regular egg size egg-o-meter with small Silkie eggs in a still air incubator .... do i need to adjust temp. up because bigger egg sits higher up in warmer air? i feel i should be running it on 100.5.... ???
@LittleRedCoop53 I have not used it, I have found these for you if you had not run into them.
Quote: THE ONLY RATING I HAD FOUND ON THIS PRODUCT........
Several people spoke about the accuracy of a thermometer called the Egg-O-Meter on this web site and I bought one. I found that the Egg-O-Meter is very accurate in temperature reading if left in the incubator for several hours to warm up. It read exactly 100 degrees just as my incubator thermometer. One drawback is the size of the artificial egg. I found that it was too big to stay in my bantam egg trays and would fall out when the tray turned. The feature for reading high and low temps is a great service because you can get an accurate guage of the temperature variations in your incubator. I'm satisfied with this product.
The Egg-O-Meter has a sensor that is embedded in a synthetic egg which closely reflects the temperature of a real egg.

How Does a Hygrometer Work?
Shown here is a WET Bulb Hygrometer and wick
Wet bulb is exactly what it states. It is the temperature relative of the humidity in degrees.
A Hygrometer Wick is placed over the stem of the thermometer and the other end of the sleeve is placed in a jar or pan in the incubator.
