The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Since you asked

I am hatching isbars, SFH's and isabelle leghorns to enlarge my flock, as well as some accidental LV marans, that just happened, cause I LOVE ME SOME BLUE BIRDS. The silver, LV and buff AM's that are because you showed that gorgeous picture and a couple of penedesencas that also happened by accident.

That should make anybody that was feeling like they have a chicken problem feel better.
I am trying to keep up though. I have my Olive Eggers and a Sapphire. I got some Bantam Wyandottes. Then I couldn't resist an auction of a variety of 3 rare breeds in 17+ eggs at a price I could pay.

Hmmm... I can see the appeal in Cochins certainly. As weird as it sounds, leghorns are my all time favorite breed. They aren't rare or fancy at all, but they can be the bravest and most loyal companions, sleek and beautiful, and sometimes entirely skip molt and some will give you an egg every day until they die.

I'll see how I like em' this spring... I'm hatching some TJ/WF eggs for the Easter H-A-L.

They should be going to my grandfather (he has more land for them) however, if they are super amazing... ya know.... maybe we'll keep just a few... Lol chicken math at its finest...

So put 15 eggs in the incubator 21 days ago. Fourteen chicks out and a late bloomer hatching now. 100% hatch rate can't complain.

Wow! I sorta got a 100% once (with a broody, all the eggs made it except one which was stolen by something super early on)... Such an amazing feeling! Congratulations! :woot:

Ya I can't believe it to be honest. I didn't think the last two were gonna hatch but we're late bloomers.

Well it looks like I am out. I will be setting chicken and duck eggs this weekend.....so I will be missing the set date!! Good luck guys! ;)

Bummer! Good luck with your eggies :)

Hatching eggs is rewarding but totally stressful!!! :p

Oh she is cute! I like her color, She looks like a Gray Silkie. Im not sure but I think also referred to as Silver Partridge... Though I may stand to be corrected.

I cant tell but does she have a red or brown tone in her wing?

Nop no brown tones in her wings amazingly her color hasn't really stopped changing I swear with each season she has looked a bit different. I'll have to get some more pics. She looked more splash for a while when she was younger. Will have to get some more photos in better lighting.

Also found out today that our feed store will be getting extra chicks in on March 30th-dh2b's bday-so we may be getting more than the 5 St run white rocks and the 5 speckled Sussex pullets we already ordered. They will have favorelles, light Brahmas, EEs, brown leghorns oh my the list goes on!!! Yikes chicken math is mean lol just have to be under 40 by this next winter... I can do that right? Right? Help!

I'm running out of space. My 4 weeks old are too big for the brooder and my 17 weeks old are getting so big that they have almost no space.
Can I add the 17 weeks old to the adult coop?

If you keep an eye on the 17 week olds. I would also let the 4 week olds start hanging with the adults in the warmth of the day. I found that if I have them living in the coop by the time they have first feathers it's much less of a problem than getting the flock to accept someone close to thier size. My flock is mostly silkie and frizzle though.
