I would like to join the hatch a long.

They are great about answering questions too. Hope ALL your hatches are great. All 3 bators full lol
@cree57i doesn't raise Orpingtons . The roo she gave me was the only hatch from eggs she ordered. She has some beautiful SFH, Isabelle leghorns, Isbars and she had some BCMs but don't know if she still does.
If you post it on the EE sexing thread, those people are crazy good at being able to tell. I'm feeling like its a female based on the even coloring, but I'm no expert.

Hi & the HAL!!
What eggs will you be setting? I've got seriously itchy fingers and can't wait to get the incubator on and eggs set
- The Odd One
I've decided to set everything I have so far tomorrow and everything I get in the next 5 days I'll set.
I have a problem, though. I can't decide how I should label each set of eggs I set. If I label them with the set date I'm libel to forget when they go into lockdown.... and now I feel really stupid because the solution is so obvious. If I label them with the set date they'll just go into lockdown by the order of the dates.
Yep. Time for me to go to bed.
I have silver cots starting lockdown. They are on the bottom of the bator and the chicken eggs which don't really hit lockdown for four more days are up in the turner above them. I took flat rectangular aluminum pans and covered them with quail hardware cloth so the chicks can't drown themselves. I am going to check to see if this bring the humidity up to the point I need. The eggs are blue with the brown speckling and just like blue chicken eggs you can't see into them without a powerful light. So I am hatching blind because my light wont get here till the 8th. I wasn't even able to weigh them because I have hidden my scale and can't remember where I put it. My chicken eggs have drawn down. I was shifting them around because I have been still air hatching for over a week. I started with the fan for the first 5 days but I didn't want to over evaporate the quail eggs so I plugged the fan into the cooling socket of my thermostat. It only kicks on if the temp spikes now.
I don't know what is more addicting: incubating eggs or making incubators. I just ordered another STC-1000 thermostat because I need an incubator and a hatcher. I have a dishwasher that I am going to refit as an incubator and turn the cabinet bator into a hatcher. Or maybe vice versa. I salvaged an enameled metal grill off of a broke space heater. I am going to use it in the dishbator to protect the heating element.
I am swinging back and forth about my chicken eggs. I don't dare get my hopes up too high but I really want at least one of the rare eggs to give me enough of the right genders to breed with. Between the Neiderrhieners, the Twentse and the Orust the Orust look like the most likely candidate. Not keen on the aggression level that I hear the roos have but those speckled legs that they sport are unique. The color pattern that they have is most likely a different set of genes than the regular mottling genes because none of the other patterns have the speckled legs. Having the possibility to add speckled legs to project birds is just too cool.
That is so cool. I didn't know they had speckled legs! I just looked up a good pic of them and that is just awesome!
Well darn! Was hoping to win an auction tonight - I don't have very many eggs to incubate for the Hatchalong - anyone have any they could ship that would get to me in TX by Friday?? Pretty, pretty PLEASE?! Let me know what you might have, price, etc - thanks so much for any help!!
If you haven't any offers I might be able to get 8-12 barnyard mixes sent out to you. If you don't mind mixes, I'd gladly send them to you for free. My parents are going to think I'm crazy. This is the fourth offer I've made to send eggs for free.
My Ayam Cemani eggs just got here! The auction was for 8+, she told me she was sending ten, and she sent 12! One broke, one has a loose air cell, one doesn't have an air cell I can see, not sure about it. 5 are saddle celled, but this is pretty great! They came from Idaho to California. She said the eggs were laid on the 25th.
I love ayam cemanis! I hope they all hatch!
Cool. Do you know what color they'll be?
They're pretty things.
My eggs are on the way for the HAL!
Could not find a new roo for my girls so I'm having some come through the post Fingers crossed they get here ok
12 Columbian black tails, 6 bantam black orpingtons & 6 mixed Pekins (lavendar, black mottled & white)
I'm so excited I'm going to burst! Just can't wait to get to the bator on again
Those are some awesome colors! I hope they all arrive in great shape!
So this is my first time in a hatch along and I'm wondering what to do next. I signed up and I'm on the list. Do I just post how many eggs I am going to set? This has been a lot of fun reading the thread and I'm excited about doing a hatch with everyone else.
I just finished a hatch 4 weeks ago and have 10 healthy chicks out in the coop separated from my 12 hens and 2 roosters. I'm planning on setting 30 eggs on the 5th.
Thanks for any information on how to proceed
Congrats on the chicks! And welcome to the HAL!
The more information you give the more fun it is. I'm still not sure the number or breeds I'm setting, but I can only fit so many in my incubator.
My son is already involved in chicken math at 6yrs old lol - we have some chicks coming mid March but now we'll be hatching some as well, so he's adding how many we'll have...(depending on how hatch goes!) and then when we go in TSC, he and sister keep begging, "moooommm! Can't we just get a few more...what about 2 more? 1 more?" 😂 My son doesn't even realize how many that would cause us to end up with...& he doesn't care lol he just loves them! And when I told them we were hatching our own, they screamed with excitement! Lol
Oh yeah, chicken math starts early.
You know, if you want to hatch more eggs, maybe you could find someone who wants you to hatch for them. Its a great excuse. The only problem is, you may just fall in love with those chicks and want to keep them.
Thanks. It was really hard, still is hard. They just kept dying even though I spent hours and hours doing my best to keep them alive. I mean, I know I can't blame myself, but there are still so many "if I only..."s going through my head.
I lost Canary yesterday and it made me cry. I buried her next to Snart.
Welcome! 15 is a great number!
Ok guys so I messed up big time. I got so excited when I got my first green egg that I added it to the incubator then thought "this egg is going to need buddies" so I added three more. I created a staggered hatch due to hatch a week after my first hatch and now today day 18, the air cells are too small! I need help! Humidity right now is at 18%
It might sound crazy, but if you have a heat light or some other constant source of heat you could try making a home-made incubator. Put the younger eggs in it for the few days the others need to hatch, then return them to the proper incubator.
I just have two chicks drown in their eggs so I would certainly keep an eye out on humidity.
Could you try a little stagger hatching? Could a friend incubate your eggs the first few days until you can take them?
Even if you can't join, feel free to keep up. Or even hatch chicks a few days late! We don't mind!
Oh yeah. I would buy everything there if I could!
Congrats on the seramas.
Cool! Welcome to the Easter hatch-a-long!
Do you know what you are setting?
My eggs from AZ shipped yesterday. The ones from CA. shipped today. The ones from OR are not laying...HA! they don't want to go cross country... We will try again tomorrow on those.
I need positive thoughts to get any of them through Memphis intact!
On another note, did a spot check of the Brinsea Advanced that I've been calibrating every hatch. I am now in lockdown with this hatch. The temp was 97.4 by spot check and 99.1 by digital. It recalibrated back into agreement with the spot check though and has held for 14 hours so far.
I'm thinking that one needs to take a trip to get recalibrated at the factory. Does anyone know the turn around time for Brinsea?
In the mean time, I'm doing a spot check every time I look at the eggs. I would break out the eco, but can't get to it without moving the brooder with the bigger little chicks in it.
They are moving outside Friday! Always a joyous occasion!
You've got a lot of eggs coming! I'm so jealous.
