Leg Injury - Amelia

Well, I soaked Clyde's legs again in Epsom salts, he does so well. He still favors the left leg, but I know it will be a few
Weeks to heal. He will stand on it for a while and then sit down. I re wrapped the splint, up a little farther on his leg. I think it stabilized it a bit better. He gets a half baby aspirin , twice a day, he takes it right out of my hand. Betoven still prowls around the "A" frame, knowing Clyde is in there. Clyde knows he is safe in there, and has Americauna for company. He eats drinks, and loves his veggie treats and whole corn. I think he will be fine. My Polish is scared of me right now, and runs whenever he sees me near the coop. Clyde is indifferent to Betovan at this time ,just ignores him. It will not be fun when they are all back together. I will do that on a weekend I am home to supervise. Gotta love em!

I have a similar issue with a Dark Brahma.

Can't tell exactly what's going on. This photo makes it look like she has a bone spur, but it's really just as feather shaft near her toe (I think). She is heavily favoring the other leg and not putting any weight on this foot. Seems happy and hungry and health in all other respects.

Can you soak it in Epsom salt? Maybe that feather is hurting her. Not sure.

So my BO Buffy has not improved in fact she is worse.

She has lost weight, comb is pink, hardly eating.

I started tube feeding her last night.

This morning, I gave her a really good check, looking for mites. To my surprise, I am going through her feathers and see the nastiest sore. It was black and red. I knew that black was dead skin.

So to the vet I go. That nasty spot is a cyst that has burst open and gotten infected. She is on .8 Baytril twice a day.

Surgery on Tuesday. Yes I am that crazy chicken lady. He said he would charge $50.

I Will post an update Tues night.

I feel so bad that I didn't find it sooner.

Surgery went well. She is hungry and thirsty tonight. Stitches out in 10"days and hopefully she will be on her feet by the.

I have posted pictures under another post, "chicken cyst"

Well my rooster was not getting any better. I finally figured he ad dislocated his leg. I popped it back in place. He would stand more, but was acting really bad. He ate, drank, but I bathed him, due to an onset of diareha. I knew something else was going on too. He had spur wounds I had not found before, I had to go feather by feather, and he had a lot! Apparently an infection had set in, the runs were a good sign, I started treatment, but it ended up being too late. He was walking around fine in the morning ate his treats, and I found him dead in the coop a while later. They hide it so well. His comb stayed bright red the whole time., No more long spurs on my other too ever again!
