Ok they are not "gearing" up, but I think they know it's coming.  The huge snowstorm set to hit us this weekend.  It seems my girls absolutely hate the snow.

Mine are gearing up for spring. Basking in the sun today and quite content hanging out under there favorite leafless shrub this 15 degree day. Paths in the snow are shoveled and hay in on ground under tree and in shelter area in front of coop. They must be thinking spring is around the corner! Should start getting eggs soon.

With the increasing daylight hormones are increasing, hens are starting to lay and roosters are starting to fight, actual Spring might be a while yet, but everyone is starting to get ready for the spring mating and hatching that's to come.

As far as weather animals can smell and feel what is coming, most often they will get squirrelly before a big weather event.
