Muscovy female left an egg in the middle of the lawn. What's that about?

I did not see her do it but one of the backyard Muscovy females laid an egg in the middle of the lawn.  It's just sitting there.  I did not see her lay it but found it there this morning.  I don't know of any females with nests anywhere around the house.  This has happened one other time a few years ago.

What makes them just drop eggs in random spots like this?  Is the egg viable?  Should I try to hatch it?  Any thoughts?

@Joan6153 Some times they just lay where ever especially when first starting to lay.  If it's viable no one would know.  You'd have to open it to see if it's fertile or just pop it into the bator and wait 7 days. They will even lay their egg in the pool or pond too. When you feel the urge you just go with the flow. lol

Thanks for the info, Miss Lydia.  The egg was broken the next day so I did not get to find out any more about it.  There is a Muscovy male in the backyard that keeps chasing all the females back and forth and they don't seem interested in his attentions.  But I suspect he has mated with at least one of them and that one is the source of the egg.  She might have a nest somewhere now where she is going to lay her eggs.  At least I hope so. I hate to see these random "gifts" laying around!
