I have incubated an egg and ti had a hard time hatching. I followed all the directions I read and now I have a strong chick but having a hard time holding her head up. It's been about 6 hours since she was freed from shell. and about 2 hours since I got the last of it off of her back.
I tried giving her some water/gatorade in an eye dropper but she chirped loudly and shook it off.
She is one pathetic looking chick. Her feathers look like they dried to her skin from dried membrane. but she is strong and bobbling around incubator

Help!

you can wash her with warm water (use a thermometer and get it about 95-99 degree, then use a paper towels to blot dry and place back in the incubator to fluff up.

I've never incubated or hatched eggs before so can't offer you advice on that but I do want to say hello and I hope your little one is fine.

Good luck and thanks for joining us!

she is getting stronger but is just waddling around but is getting better about holding head up.

Newly hatched chicks often sleep most of the first day etc. They can go without food for up to 3 days because they got nutrition from their egg sac. You could use a bit of dawn dish soap and warm water to clean her up (sounds like she was shrink wrapped). If you have a small hair dryer you can get her dry fast - do be sure it isn't too hot - just warm. Then she can go back to the brooder if you have one , with a heat lamp, etc. If she is the only chick, you can give her a small stuffed toy to cuddle and small mirror, so she thinks there is another chick with her. Be sure there is a wire cover on her brooder - to keep house pets, etc. from getting to her.

thank you! She is really strong but now I noticed she has curled feet and is walking on the sides which makes her waddle. I've been reading on splinting her feet with bottle cleaners.
She gets so mad when I try to water her or check her feet! She is very feisty!

Hello!
400

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to joined the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC. Good luck with your little girl. It sounds like curly toes. They can be fixed. Just do a search on it.
