I am planning on building a new run to keep chicks in for the first month with a warm brooder attached to it. The location I had in mind is covered in what I believe to be nightshade. It looks exactly like photos online. No berries, just leafy plants with flowers. The plants are only about 3-5 inches tall and are growing in sand. So, I've started weeding it all out by hand so none will grow back.
As I was weeding a few days ago my chooks noticed what I was doing and suddenly took a great fancy to eating the leaves when before they went completely unnoticed. A few days later the plants are only stems and my chooks are not acting sick or ill in any way. I not sure what all this means, as I thought it was bad for them. Maybe the berries are only poisonous to chooks?
I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. Thanks!
