I have a one year old (almost) flock of original breed Roman geese - 5 ganders and 5 geese. The lady I got them from as goslings swore I need 1:1 ratio because these are Roman geese and a gander is unlikely to take more than one goose. So I obediently followed her advice but now that the mating season is in full swing I have a big problem. Every time a gander wants to mate he is pushed over by the others and thus matings are I think mostly unsuccessful. What should I do? I cant afford to separate every pair - and they seem to want to mate only when they are outside anyways - so should I reduce the number of ganders? if so, Is it too late to break up pairs already made? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
