Welcome to BYC! I don't own Greens yet but I'm sure you could go to Rocking BAB Ranch's website. They say they have some imported Java Greens from 2015. Maybe give them a call or email. I know there are others here that have Greens and high % Spaldings

Sorry if I mess up the spelling, barkerg has posted pictures of Greens and high % Spaldings. Zaz just got some Greens but I don't think they are old enough to breed yet but those two will know other people with Greens. They will probably be here soon or later. Wish I could be more help.

They will be able to handle it better than a Green. I know a 50% Spalding can do fine in the cold if they have shelter. I have a 50% Spalding hen. Or at least I think she's a 50% Spalding.


This hen on the far right is my Spalding. The hen in front of my Spalding is my Indian blue Black Shoulder peahen, then a pair of Indian Whites.

Do you have any peafowl for sale doesn't matter if there spalding or not

(Check your pm as I replied) If your planning to free range, I would suggest maybe lower % spauldings as they tend to hang around better. If your planning to coop them, the higher % birds will be fine as long as you provide cover and shelter from the elements. Unfortunately, even the higher % greens will still have the same issues as the pure greens, they are not as tolerant to the weather and might hang around for a bit when free ranged but, when the season starts, you take a much higher risk of losing your best males as they tend to have a much larger range and wander away. The higher % you get, the more squirrelly they will be and if they get stressed like being overcrowded they are known to pluck feathers on themselves as well as the others which becomes contagious in the pen and is a very hard habit to break in greens. My rule of thumb (depends on the birds personality) is to provide more space for the higher % birds and keep the rooster to hen ratio 1to1 no more than 1to2 as the hens will fight over the male which can and will hurt fertility rates. The green roosters will need to be separated when they are mature and a blind in between the the pens is a must as they are much more aggressive and will destroy the pen as well as themselves due to fighting. Hope this helps.

p.s. I remember them cold Kentucky winds, I was stationed at FT Knox in the 80's, provide shelter from the winds and you will be fine.

If you are new to shipping you need to be aware that the normal charges include the shipping container, postage, and some states require a health certificate from a vet before shipping into their state. Shipping containers run from $20 to $35 depending on the size of the box. Postage is figured by the wieght, size of the box, and distance traveled.

Also know that postage has increased this month and some of the discounts that we had are now gone. A shipment I sent out Monday was 25 pounds going to Virginia in a large swan box cost $135 in postage. Hope this gives you an idea of how shipping works, if you have more questions just ask.
