I had already posted a thread on metzers on the hatchery section, but then noticed if someone was going to post a picture of their ducks they would go to a duck thread. Anyway, i want to order from metzers, mainly Harlequins, but first I want to see peoples Harlequins that they got from metzers (only metzers) so that i would see if they are more silver or gold phase and their quality. Thanks!

Officially Metzer only has the silver phase but many people receive a few off-colored ducks that resemble gold phase. Based on my research Metzer provides very healthy ducks that make great pets and egg layers but do not expect show quality. If you are ordering straight run get them from Holderread because they are actually a little less expensive and closer to show quality.

Nice. So some female harlequins have black or darker beaks and some have lighter yellow beaks? I like the black beak better and would rather have a black beak female.

I think I read somewhere that Metzer has pretty good Welsh Harlequins, as opposed to their other breeds. I remember them saying they were close to show quality. But I'm sure Holderread would have very high quality birds. Either way, I'm pleased with my two birds. They're beautiful and fun pets.

The breed standard states the female should have a dark bill, however not all birds meet the standard. I ordered 4 WH females from Metzer last August. Before this weekend I would have said they are all happy and healthy. Unfortunately I lost one this past weekend. There was no clear cause of death but the vet suspects she had a congenital issue. I don't want this to turn you off Metzer though. I don't think they can be blamed for her sudden death and getting the same ducks from another source would run the same risks. Pure breed animals are far more susceptible to these issues as they are inherently partially inbreed. All that being said, I love my ducks from Metzer.

Here is my most recent picture of them. Keep in mind they haven't gone through their second molt so they still have their juvenile feathers.

Sorry about the loss of your duck. Wow they are pretty though! I wonder if they will look like my female, Jeepers, when they molt; they look much darker right now. I can't remember what Jeepers looked like before getting her adult feathers. It's been a year lol
