:( So this morning a raccoon got into our coop and killed two chickens and left one with a huge wound that covers her whole back. We got Vetericyn but I don't know how to clean the wound. I have had such an awful day the last thing I need is to loose another one of my babies....

please help me...

thank you,

Zoey

Clean the wound with peroxcide then spray it with Blue-kote. That's a antiseptic spray that covers the wound. It's a dark color that will covr the red meat that chickens like to peck at. Stops pecking of wound and keeps it from infecting. It's a must have for livestock and available at feed store in spray cans. Reapply as needed, after it scabs over you'll still need to apply to stop pecking.

Just pour on peroxcide to clean. Then put on an antiseptic. Sounds like you have antiseptic but you'll want BLue Kote as it's blue. Designed for livestock for the reason of cover so it's not messed with by other animals. I'd separate the bird until you have Blue-Kote.

I don't see a need for bandages unless it's to stop bleeding or hold a dislocated leg joint in place. Just clean wound then topical spray.
