Exactly. Chickens are not worth the death of a human being. Of course, if the human was hurting you or your family, that would be a different matter. I hope this poster was joking.

am040608 -- I've been following this and I am sorry you lost some chickens. I am assuming you live out in the country and have property. What I've noticed with mine is Hens can break their neck if they fall off the roosting board during the night when it is dark. If they loose their balance during the night they can't see where to land. One of ours had a broken neck during the day time, you see I have a pecker that picked on her and she would stay inside the coop most of the day and we figured the pecker came after her while she was sitting on the roosting board or either chased her while she was on it and fell and broke her neck. I was not home at the time but, prior to finding her I had taken her back into the coop to keep pecker from bothering her before I left. I was only gone maybe 20 minutes and came back to check her and she was gone. I think our pecker is the one that killed her since I found her under the roosting board laying on her back with her feet up in the air. She was an Australorp and I got really close to her to protect her from the pecker. This went on for almost a year before she was killed.

We have two roosting board pushed together now, no accidents with in 10 months about, pecker is still the pecker but is being pecked on by the others now, she only goes after our Australorp Hens which I have two left, others get along with the Australorp but this one likes to bully them. The other two of the same breed as the pecker doesn't bully the Australorp at all, they hang out together in the run so why she does this not sure.

You probably meant to say laying on her egg in a box or something. We use a few boxes and the other one is a box but it's made out of wood, they lay most of the time in the wooden box over the cardboard box, funny chickens I guess, they prefer wood over cardboard. I went into the coop one day just to get eggs and found a egg not in the box but, on the laying board. Remember we have two pushed together so egg did not fall or break just sitting on the laying boards. That was my find a few weeks back.

I hope you have no more accidents or deaths and hope all your chickens are doing just fine.

Set up a security camera. When you see who it was, call the cops.
