I've found I have quite a few mosquitoes in my chook house. I do have mosquito netting covering my windows and ventilation holes. My issue is I have been getting a bit lazy of late and don't get around to shutting their little door they come in and out of at night. Their chook pen is predator proof so the extra effort isn't needed. My question is: does anyone have any idea how I could cover their small entrance so the chooks can go in and out but the mozzies stay out?
I was thinking of making something similar to the flywire screens that have the magnets down the middle or hanging rope pieces all the way along the top so they walk through and the rope swings back to block the door.
I'm just not sure they would be brave enough with either of these methods. I'm already having trouble training them to use a treadle feeder without scaring themselves.
Any ideas would be great. Thanks

I think any type of strip door would also be unsuitable because they might get caught in it.

Instead of a physical barrier, have you considered herbal deterrents? Citronella or lemon gum oil or something?

What waterers do you have? Mozzies breed in stagnant water, are they breeding in your water supplies? If so, you might look at some way of moving their water (pond pump, or something?)

Yes the herbal deterrents look like a good option. I read last week that Rosemary and lavender help keep pests away and as I have that in my garden I've been cutting it up and putting it in their coop. I will look at putting more pest control plants around their coop. I like the natural options.
