I'm not new to chickens, but I am new to the forum. I'm on a few Facebook groups, but wanted to get more insight than the locals.

Right now we have a (surprise) rooster - Hawkeye, a silkie hen - Mulan, 2 polish pullets - Polly and Wiley, a barred rock pullet - Bee, an easter egger pullet - Pepper, a 4 month old sizzle too - Ozzie, and two mystery mutts that are about 3 months old. We actually do have backyard chickens. We live in the city, with a big backyard where the chickens run free pretty much always. Since we have the accidental roosters I decided to take up a friend on the offer of borrowing her incubator and was given a dozen eggs and collected a dozen of our own. I was a nervous wreck the first few days they were in the incubator! Now I'm resigned to them maybe not hatching. Still hoping someone will just go broody for me. Would be so much easier...

Thanks for having me y'all!

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad to have you join us here. I hope that you will enjoy being a member and be able to contribute to helping other members out as well as learning some new things too. One of the great things about BYC is that it has members from all over the world and its interesting to read that there are often more than one way to skin a cat!

The learning centre is a good place to look over, as is your state thread.

All the best and good luck with waiting for one of your girls to go broody!

Welcome to BYC. Is your silkie hen laying yet? Generally they are the ones that go broody. Maybe she is holding our for better incentives like cable, smart phone or a sauna.
