When does Chick Season start and end for you?

In about a week, one of the stores will be getting them in already.

In a month, another will.

As I remember it, chick season at Attwoods lasted a LONG time. They had chicks months after the feed store stopped.

I'm in East Texas.

My feed store said they can't get guineas or turkeys this season. I wonder why.

What about you? When do you think your chicks will start?

Without making too big a deal out of it, chick season for me never begins. Chick season instead is governed by the momma hen.

,where I live in California, the " official season is in April. I always try to get mine in February or March but this year I ordered a small order end of January, but the hatch date and ship date is April 11th because my order was so small only five females.The hatchery won't ship till then.When my towns "chick days" were going on last year I asked if I could order with them and pay a pre order, they said no. I asked if I could pay them to hold some back for me, they said no, first come, first serve. Then I asked the exact date of the first shipment so I could be there and they said, not sure so I was more than frustrated. That was my TSC. But we have another farm store that carries them too called Round up not far from my house so I had asked them the same, they said about the same with no one knowing the exact date of shipment..I do know it's in April because I go get feed and suddenly see them there. will your farm stores let you pre order?? Or Pre pay to hold some for you? In my small town their are only about 3 stores that have chick sale days.

I've got 1 game Bantam and one Old English.

I've got 4 Austrolorps. Bought them last fall.

Last year, my Ameracauna went broody, raised some out.

I think a Red did too.

My Old English raised out 2 clutches.

I need someone who can actually reach the nest boxes.

A Leghorn also went broody.

I had a 9 month old Buff O hen go broody on us in December while we were having a mild stretch of winter weather. It was like WHAT are you thinking, silly hen. It was hard for me to do as she was so determined to sit on whatever eggs she could find in the nesting boxes. Which in itself was funny to watch. If the box next to her had 4 eggs in it and she was sitting on 2 she would move over to the box with the most eggs in it and occupy.It was like she could count and knew 4 was a higher number than 2. After 4 days of arguing with her about it, she went in the broody breaker box (which really is a miracle invention that every chicken person should have) for three days and finally kicked the urge. I was glad as the next week, temps went down to single below zero digit lows for several nights.

Locally, towards the end of February, first of March, the farm stores start getting chicks in. I'm going to resist as I want broody hens to do the booding for me this spring and summer. So personally, it's up to them. As soon as the weather gets to a point where the nights stay above freezing I'll let nature take it's course.
