Hello all. This is my first post on BYC but have been a lurker for quite some time. I took a kids play structure and turned it into a coop. A neighbor of ours has 35 chickens and one is a rooster so most of the eggs are fertile. Another neighbor has been incubating them and I've been the recipient of 14 chickens. Two of the oldest have turned out to be roosters so I've taken care of those so my chickenless neighbors don't complain. I have identified two more roosters up and coming that are probably two months old. As soon as they start to make noise I will clean them and put them in the freezer.
Now the oldest chicks (4 months) have started to lay. So far in the last 3 days we have got a green egg, two greenish brown and one small white egg. Ultimately I want 6 to 8 laying hens. Looks like the numbers are skewed towards females so I may end up with 9 or 10. No big deal. I can't seem to post picture yet but when I can I will add some photos.

Its hard to tell from the photos but that is one green egg, two greenish brown and a small white egg. The largest of the greenish brown was a double yolk. I'll add some pics of my chicks later
