I started raising chickens in NY when I was back in grade-school for a hobby but I stopped after I joined the Marines after High School (2005). I wasn't able to keep any due to the transient lifestyle, but I've been getting back into it again. It's such a fun and relaxing hobby for me so i'm addicted to it again. I currently live in Yountville, CA and I have 3 Jersey Black Giants and 6 silkies. I've been building a separate coop for game fowl which I'm starting to get set up for birds this spring. I've been looking at Malays recently and I've found this board to be a great source of info on game fowl and Malays. Thanks for reading. Pete.

Pete raising poultry is very relaxing and the VA Hospital in Loma Linda tried to give me a dog back in 2005 but I did not want any dog so they filled up my truck with geese ducks chickens and guinea and I have been busy ever since and they make me get up every morning just to feed and water them ...

BYC has a quality learning center you might want to check it out .....

Hello Pete and
welcome-byc.gif
so glad you have joined us.

I am so jealous of your younger years of raising your own flocks. Congrats on getting back into the "chicken thing".

Hope you will share your experiences. Enjoy the forums.

Hi Pete and welcome to our community. I hope that you will be able to share your experience with other members - we are a friendly bunch, so feel at home.

Hello!
400

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to joined the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC. Thank you for your service.

Thanks everyone! I have a few black O shamos, french copper marans, and black Malay eggs in the incubator and under my silkies now. I'm hoping to breed a tall and friendly bird. (Marans are for the beautiful eggs). I remember when the-coop.org was the go to source for chicken hobbyists, but I love the layout and the direction that BYC took with the site! Tons of great resources! Thanks for the warm welcome.
