Hi has anyone done a planted aviary for quail. Did you fix a bottom to the aviary or just filled with soil and planted it,(the aviary will be on top of decking)
also this is for Californian quail any suggestions on good plants to use?

I have used dogwood, elderberry, boxwood, cedar, and many grasses all with great success AS LONG AS THE PEN IS NOT CROWDED. A crowded pen will never support plant life. I also know of other breeders using lilacs and bamboo with great success

well, as you can see from these pictures, I have quite a large outdoor aviary for them at summer time, and they do have a little door to the interior aviary if they want to go there when it's raining or the day is too windy. They have lots of local grass and fern in there, and even blueberries.

Nice! Mine will be 6ft x 4ft and will be put on my decking, I have a blackcurrant bush for it. I'm thinking some tufts of grass so they can make a nest, not sure what to use for them to roost in, as these like to roost up high most the year
