We have very large blk snakes here they just come right through the yard where my flock is standing around go into the houses looking for eggs. I've had to go in and get them out of a stall where one of my ducks was sitting she was trying her best to get it to leave but it wasn't. I've had to learn since having birds that you just have to go in and get these 5-6ft black snakes they are very brave. I don't kill them though since they help keep the vermin pop down.

Were those snakes cotton mouths or King snakes? King snakes are one of the main ones who go after eggs and they don't have venom

But I'm not sure if those are the snakes in your areas so again don't quote me on that

Hello

We have carpet pythons. Our ducks are both indian runners. We had a small carpet python last night but he was not afraid.  When I tried to grab him he almost bit me :lau. So I got someone else to do it.

Thanks for replying

Snake eats my birds, snake dies. It's called the circle of life. They leave my birds/eggs alone they are free to roam and eat the rodents. If you are seeing that many snakes and they are starting to go after your birds you probably need to thin them out anyway.

If it eats my food I eat it. Usually works out pretty well outside the canabalism issue I once had at band camp.

If you have friends with terriers or terrier mixes they can help  with  vermin.

You'll need to decide in advance if you want the snake alive or dead. Because a true ratter will kill it dead before you can even react to it.. like, before you can blink your eyes.

I pesoanlly try to rehome snakes/ use my dogs ot discourage them from certain areas.

You can also use fruit tree bird netting along the bottom of your  pen area.  The snakes get tangled in the netting (and also  larger rodents).  You'll need to check it daily  and remove injured or dead wild life.  I would only use this in a life or death situation for your ducks.  This stuff stopped a 5 foot long rat snake from getting my ducklings when they were about 7 weeks old.  We spent about an hour untangling it and it had some very gnarly wounds from the netting.

If you think the snakes are poisonous or aren't sure please call your local wildlife /game/hunting department for help.  They may remove the animals themselves or recommend a trusted partner to remove without harming wild life or human life.

Okay so u know that garden Lyme stuff. Snakes hate it! When they slink over it it get stuck and it starts to burn them, they're fine as long as they slither in grass to get it off or near a pond, but they hate smelling it and it's affects!
