One of my white quail was not doing well in the pen so I brought it in for the night. It was dead this morning. I didnt find any outward signs of injury so I cant determine cause of death.

I wanted to find out what sex it is. I opened it up and could not find any evidence of egg formation so can I assume it to be a male? Whites are hard to sex unless you catch them crowing or laying an egg.

there is a couple good vidos on u tube, the males feathers on bottom are thicker and go about to the tail.If they are alive roll them over and mash right behind vent with finger. If white foam comes out,its a male.I sexed all mine and colored the males head blue. When they are breeding,i just grab the males ans color them

Thanks, I found a good dissection vid and it showed how to locate the preparing ovum for eggs laying in females. Also, the foam trick
might not work once dead but before I opened the little guy up I pressed on its vent area and no foam came out just a little poo.
I said mine was 8 month old well it is more like three months at most. Im wondering if it might have been too young and the season too early to develop ovum.Still dont know what caused its death. Poor baby.

My main concern is catching any problems between the males. I have a lot of males with my females but in a very large aviary setting with lots of hiding places. That doesnt mean there wont be problems between the males once mating season is in full swing. I just need to keep an eye on it. If this dead one was indeed a male I wanted to know as that might be an indication of fighting between the males.
