Egg Bound Hen help.....

Good evening smile.png
I am new in the forum and new to keeping chickens. I have five 18 month old ladies and my golden sexlink did not come out of the run this morning when I let everyone out. She was puffed up in the corner and she kept dozing off, very lethargic. She was straining and squatting and when she did finally poop it was white and foamy. I googled her symptoms and figured she was egg bound, she's a tiny hen and lays huge eggs...and she the last of my girls to molt. She's slowed down laying eggs lately and I figured it was her turn to molt as everyone else has already. I ran up to the house and gathered a crate and set myself up to soak her in the tub, but when I went back to the coop to get her there was half an egg shell on the ground of the coop plus what looked like a whole yolk/white in the nesting box. Gigi is her name, and she was out and running with the other ladies. There's nothing around her vent and her feathers are clean....my question is should I still soak her in the bath? Do chickens pass the whole egg even if it broke inside? I've read about infection and even though she seems 100 times better I'm worried she might get sick still. Any knowledge is greatly appreciated thank you!!

Any egg shell should pass it's self and I wouldn't worry unless she is acting like that again just keep an eye on her and see if she is eating drinking and acting like her normal self and not losing weight

Welcome to BYC. If you think there could be part of the shell or membrane retained, you can easily feel inside the vent an inch or so with a rubber glove. Many young hen can lay soft shelled eggs, and some do break. If this becomes a habit, they can be prone to developing egg yolk peritonitis. If she seems to be feeling fine, then the egg may have been eaten by the chickens.

Thank you! She is looking good this morning I'm keeping a close eye on her but it seems as though she passed the egg...her poop looks normal. Thanks again for the responses! 😃
