We ordered 22 Red Sex Link and 3 Ameracaunas (I know probably Easter Eggers, but Ideal Poultry calls them Ameracaunas).
They are almost 3 weeks old and the sweetest set of birds we've gotten.

One is very interesting. Under the red light we thought it might be a sex-link rooster sent as a peanut.
When we got it out of the red light, we realized it has the build and legs of an Ameracauna (EE).
We have only ever seen the brown, hawk-like looking Ameracaunas so this one has thrown us.

Ideal Poultry asked for pictures because they haven't seen many Ameracaunas with description.
I'll share what Ideal comes back with, but in the meantime feel free to throw out your ideas :)

It is a sweet bird. Likes to be held and will snuggle when held. Coos instead of chirps. Haven't named it yet :)

Ideal says a white or wheaten Ameracauna depending on whether it's really white or cream.
Hard to see but it's really a creamy white with very light brown speckles. Quite a pretty bird.

Your "Ameraucanas" are actually Easter Eggers as Ideal does not sell true Ameraucanas. The only hatchery that actually breeds and sells true Ameraucanas is Meyer Hatchery which breeds Blue Ameraucanas and they charge 5 times as much for them as they do for their Easter Eggers.

I know... That is why I put Ameracauna (EE). I'm not saying what she is. Ideal calls it one thing and I know its probably the other. I used the same notation many others used in this forum without as many corrections as I am getting. I know the difference. Thank you.

No need to delete. It is a good post, and you got the answer you requested.

It is an EE. A very pretty EE.

And yes, EE and not Ameraucana, but you had suspicions about that anyway but weren't sure, so you posted. Which was a service to you and to others.

Most hatcheries call their chicks Ameraucanas when they aren't...and once you get into the chicken world you come to know that...but until you do, you have to ask questions...and get some answers.

My Pet Chicken (www.mypetchicken.com) also sells both true Ameraucana and Easter eggers but if I remember correctly without looking it up, the true Ameraucanas are 20.00 per day old pullet while the EE's are three something (plus shipping.) Last year they offered only two colors.
I do believe the My Pet Chicken gets their Ameraucanas from Meyers as they get other breeds from them.
