So I had this chic posted on Facebook as a rooster because to me it looks like a rooster. It's 7 weeks old. But other people are saying it's a hen....what do you guys think?

At this point in time, I would call this youngster a pullet due to the lack of developing saddle feathers near the base of the tail.

My other roosters didn't get saddle feathers til like 3-4 months old. Didn't think they would get them that early.

But this pullet I guess has definitely brought to my attention that you can't always go by the comb this early on in age :/ learn something new all the time.
Next picture is from the same hatch. I knew it was a girl.

Here are some pictures for comparison.
The cockerel is the second on the right. Although the picture quality is poor you can see his tail feather starting to turn down. His stance is taller than his sisters.

Cockerel. He's just starting to develop his darker saddle and hackle feathers.

In this photo the cockerel is on the left-note the pointy hackle feathers on his neck. On the right is what I call a manly hen. Despite her well developed comb and wattles (note her sister behind her) and rather unusual saddle feathers, this bird turned out to be a fantastic layer. Note her LACK of shiny hackle feathers.

Some birds will challenge the most experienced chickens owners and I always wait until I hear a crow on some birds!

In this photo the chick who turned out to be a rooster is the little one on the left. I thought the boy was the big one in the back.

He turned into this.

There is always a chicken who fools us.

Hope this helps.
