Waiting...

I'm impatiently waiting for my chickens to lay their first eggs. I raised some chicks for my mother-in-law and they began laying about a month ago... My chickens are 2 months younger than hers but are showing some signs that laying is imminent: combs and wattles are really beginning to fill out and redden and squatting is occurring/confirmed in 3 of my 6 hens. I keep looking in the nesting boxes and searching their run but no eggs yet. The waiting is excruciating!

Here are some photos of my chickens, just because.

Very pretty chickens! Sometimes chickens will have red combs or squat for a while, so you just need to be patient. Good luck!

I'm of opinion that the attention given to pullets by cockerels delays laying. Been of this opinion for some time now and looking just now at this thread see mention of same climate, same mix of birds and one group is laying but yours with a cockerel (Barred in last photo) is not two months later.

Thanks @DeepDishChix , I'm really trying to be patient, but failing miserably!

They are really fun to watch and interact with on a daily basis, I just want some eggs!

@Egghead_Jr my cockerel does give my girls a lot of attention... My Black Australorps put him in his place, but my barred rocks and buff orps just run away from him screaming when he makes his unwanted advances...

I know how hard it is to wait. My Gold Comet Phil had red comb and wattle, and was squatting, but no eggs. Then one day I found out she was hoarding 15 of them in the corner.

Hahaha @DeepDishChix I'm convinced I'm somehow going to miss them and one day find a bunch of babies. There's no possible way I would miss her sitting on eggs that long, but this is the irrational fear I have. Lol.
