Hi everyone, I'm planning on making a sand box for my 5 hens, anyone know some good materials to use and sizes? Thank you:)

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I actually use wood ash rather than sand for the flocks' bathing as it does a better job preventing lice and mite infestations than sand does. I've typically used a flat pine box around 3' X 2' with sides 4" to 5" high. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Here are are a few ideas you could take a look at as I don't know the dementions as I found these few images on Google images so I hope this helps and you find one you like

Some folks just use one of those plastic sand boxes for kids, the turtle shape ones with cover are very popular. The cover can keep the elements out when not in use. Usually you can find them cheap on Craig's list or garage sales. They are easy to clean out.

In addition to the wooden boxes and sand boxes, I've read of some using old car tires for their girl's dust bathing. I say use what you have, the chickens will enjoy a good dust bath no matter how it's set up for them.

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great advice already, so i'll just check in to say a big hello.

Cheers
