I would like to grow grass in the chickens run on one end there run is over 30 feet long and 11 feet wide and I would like to put in a splitter in between the run somewhere and have a section of grass the can go in when it gets high and I need to be able to lift it up so does anyone know how I could do that? As also I would like to keep there compost box over in the corner where it is and is there a way I could keep them from digging up the grass or once it roots will it be harder for them to dig it up? Thanks

You can always fence off a portion of your run and put a door/gate into the grass section. Let the grass grow, then open the door and let the chickens in for a while. When the grass starts to look damaged, close the door to that section and let the grass recover.

I don't really have the option to put in a gate because I can't buy post for the run as also there run is two dog pens connected together if that helps

I like that idea though but I was thinking more of like a fence of some sort that I could just pick it up and just hold it up some how and or make a fence and just make a little door to go through the fence and just have the fence there all the time

I have something like that out of 2 x 4 welded wire with a pop door cut into it. I made "hinges" out of zip ties and just swing the door up and clip it open with a d ring or clip it closed at the side. Not fancy, but it works.

I use it to put my rooster in a separate section when my grandson is here. the rest of the time it is clipped open.

I still need help though on how to grow the grass without grass seed as I didn't want to deal with all the grass seed and it not growing and or them eating it if it's got fertilizer in it thanks

The only way to 'grow' grass without planting seed is to put down sod, either transferred from another part of your property of buy it in rolls.

BUT....

....chickens will tear up even thick sod pretty quickly even after the roots grow in, and their manure is so 'hot' with nitrogen that it can burn the plants.

Growing grass in a chicken run is an endeavor in futility.

If you want some 'live greens' in your chicken run, so a search on grazing frames.
