My 10-month-old barred rock laying hen developed a nasty bloody leg yesterday. I suspect that she had mites and that she, or the other hens, pecked it. I washed both of her legs in tepid, barely soapy water. I then used a 20 mL syringe and flushed the site with, first, a mixture of water and Hydrogen Peroxide; then, two, a mixture of iodine solution and water. I followed that with a brushing of a wound care ointment and a polysporin ointment. That was yesterday around 3-4 p.m. This is what her legs look like this morning. She appears to be limping a little.
I have some Vetericyn Plus coming in the mail today to use on her. None of the other chickens are showing signs of mites or injury. She is the runt of the flock, however, so that could be why her little legs are so bad.
Does anyone have an advice on what I can do to help her, or what I'm doing wrong, etc.? I am keeping her quarantined. I also have some Vitamins & Electrolytes coming with the Vetericyn order that I plan on giving to her.
Thanks in advance!
