I will be setting eggs this Friday or Saturday! If anybody else is setting around that time, come on over and join the hatching fun! My eggs should arrive in the mail Wednesday or Thursday!

My first post and I thought I'd take the plunge in a hatch-along! I set 24 Marans eggs yesterday with a due hatch date of the 25th. 12 are Wheaten Marans and 12 are Copper Blue Marans (which should give some Splash marans chicks as well). Love getting the incubator going for the first time in the year. It means that Spring is right around the corner! Here's a pic of the incubator full (lid off for a few seconds for the photo opp).

I love Splash Marans! I had a pretty little pullet but she didn't make it :/

That's a shame....

It just means you'll have to set more Marans eggs now though! We've had Copper Blues and Splash Marans in years gone by and they're lovely productive birds with a great temperament. We have a couple of La Bresse Gauloise hens and some Legcanas (leghorn/Araucana crosses) but it's time to increase the flock!

Yea. I kept 3. Two blues and a splash and one of the blues ended up being a cockerel but I'm happy to be keeping their "sister". 6 of the eggs I set belong to her :)
La Bresse are one of the breeds on my very long wishlist Lol.

We are waiting on 19 eggs. 7 with a bantam hen and another 12 in an incubator. This is our first time ever to try and hatch. Hoping we get a few. The lady who gave us the eggs had her hens set on them starting Monday, so that would make our date 2/22.

So VERY excited!!! :weee
