Just curious how many people put eggs into an old egg carton for hatch time? I normally just lay the eggs on their side in the incubator but I'm considering setting them into an old carton for hatching this next time. I didn't know if there were advantages/disadvantages.

Thanks

I've done/do it both ways. I prefer to lay them on their sides at hatch time for the most part, but sometimes cartons are necessary (like for shipped eggs). One thing I don't like about the cartons, besides not being able to see what's going on very well, I've had some eggs get glued to them while they were in the process of hatching. I couldn't see it, so wouldn't know until afterwards when I'd find them stuck there dead. One thing I do like about cartons, the eggs don't get kicked all over the incubator when chicks start moving around in there!

That's why I wanted to do it, to keep the eggs from being kicked all over the place! I suppose that doesn't really hurt them to roll around a little though. I'm always afraid I missed a bad egg that hadn't started smelling yet. Just don't want to have a rotten one get broken open!
