oops, where are my manners?! hi! I'm techiebabe :)

Hello, just realised that I should have introduced myself!

I'm techiebabe. (My real name is Flash), I'm 40, and about to get my first chickens!

I've read everything I can, handled hen at the city farm, and so on. But I'm sure I'll be here asking for help in due course!

For now, I do have a post seeking advice in "managing your flock". I need to know if my plan to put ex-bats and pet layers together will work. If you have time, especially if you have ex-bat experience , I'd be very grateful for some replies on that thread! It's called something like "will this adoption work"...

Anyway, what else... I'm physically disabled. I live in east London with my wonderful husband, my fantastic 2 year old Labradoodle, and a cat who I recently adopted from a neighbour. Oh, also tropical and ponds fish. Hoping to get some hermit crabs in summer. So although I can no longer work, the menagerie keeps me busy big_smile.png

That's enough for now - nice to v-meet you all! *Wave*

Hi welcome-byc.gif From Yorkshire UK

Glad you could join the flock! My top tip for ex bats are to give them plenty of time. Things are just so different for them when they leave the commercial business. I'm sure though with lots of time and love from you they will soon settle in. Sounds like you are very busy there with your growing menagerie!! I'm sure they all bring you lots of love and joy.

Please do drop by the UK thread, the link is in my signature. I'm sure we have some members there form your area.

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC frow.gif

When you acquire new birds, especially rescues - it is best if you quarantine them away from your flock for a month or so.  This way you may avoid any diseases, and parasites they carry.  After  that time and any treatments that are necessary ,you can  gradually integrate them to your established flock.

Did a moth know that the flame was going to change her life forever, or did she simply fly towards that heated embrace, knowing it would offer her something she couldn't give herself? In the end, the answer didn't really matter. The moth had never wanted the choice. -Joey W. Hill-

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele
