Agree...probably a little boy I got 3 black sex links. Roos look like barred rocks. White dot on the head is a give away of sex. Of course I learned that after the fact.

That's Ideal's policy. You can order as few as you want from them, but for shipping purposes they add enough male "packing peanuts" to bring the total up to the minimum shipping order.

Your chick photos are adorable. You can see how little hatcheries value male chicks - that they consider them packing peanuts.
Ideal's policy for small orders is to add "packing peanuts", excess males, to keep the pullet chicks warm during shipping. 9 chicks don't generate enough body heat to tolerate shipping. So, they add males or you can pay extra for a heat pack.

It was the "surprise package" I ordered 7 pullets and 2 roos. I don't mind the extras as the roos will make nice fryers or a nice addition for my smoker. I will be able to keep the best roos. I don't live in the city

Ya I may start ordering my small orders from them. I also can keep Roos. And the extra will get a great life on my 8 acre farm until it's time for the crock pot. I have four roosters running around now. Soon to be 3 ones getting a bit aggressive. Witch is unfortunate cause he's a beautiful black Minorca.

!!! I was thrilled with mine and they were super nice to talk with and the Rhode Island Red and Barred Rock I hoped were there! Also, I think some Black Australorops, and two yellow types, some two toned and some pale yellow, I love them all!! Two of the black ones have solid black faces and some of the Barred Rock type look like strokes of yellow? Anyway, they immediately had to be moved to a larger brooder box! Very lively! Looking forward to enjoying their little personalities develop! The smaller Black Australorps are new for me and they just bump all the rest out of the way and are very funny to watch and the big yellow ones are super sweeties!

I ordered the 25 "Surprise Special" from Ideal and they sent 27
Hatcheries sometimes send one or two extras in case something happens to some of yours during the shipping. They are so cute!
