UPDATE!!! PICS ADDED to first post!!!Hi I'm new, and Ornamental Layer collection from Murray hatcher

LL

I think the two chipmunks are maybe partridge Cochins.

the first feather legged may be a black Cochin.

the little tophats look like Polish

this might be an Ancona?

I see at least one that's black with a white head spot. That would mean a cuckoo Marans if white skin and straight comb, or a Dominique if yellow skin and rose comb.

I had to google most of what you said

Although I have 17 chickens already, mine are all pretty "normal", so I don't know much about the rare breeds. Which is one reason why I thought it would be fun to venture out some. I love the black and white one that looks like a penguin, and the one with the yellow top hat

I mean they are all awesome, but those stick out. And of course the fat gray ones. I'll have to post updated pictures in a week or two, and maybe they will be more identifiable

if the box their in is their brooder get a bigger one soon,,,its already a bit to small for that many especially with all the space the feeder and waterer take up.

congrats on your nuggets!

The little one with the top knot (7th picture down from the top) looks just like a White Crested Black Polish I got from MMM a couple years ago. Cute, active little bird, but watch out once that top knot starts to grow out, it becomes a real target for the others to pick at.

Very nice chicks, thanks for sharing the pictures!

Yes this is the brooder, BUT, I don't have that many in there anymore

I split the bunch with a friend. Thought I had mentioned it in original post, maybe not... I also changed the water bowl. I just couldn't find the small one yesterday when they arrived so quickly. They now have the same one in small in there, aaaand... What I did with my last set of chicks I raised, I put a hamster waterer in there. You know that bottle that hangs, with a little metal piece and a ball at the end. They actually figure out quite quick how to use it, I was surprised. They use it more than the red thing. Only disadvantage, the noise of them drinking

I have them in a room attached to my bedroom, (no clue who would build a giant storage room onto a master bedroom, but oh well) so I hear them drinking all the time. They did good though, and I didn't lose any over night. I did have to tip some of them this morning, because they were laying flat... Turns out they were just sound asleep. One of them, the brown top hat, is very sleepy, so I'm making him drink more often than the others... I added sugar to the water upon advice/instructions from MMM... Any other advice for limp/lazy chicks?

Hello Donrae,
I have a couple suggestions that may help perk up your peeps. I've found that hard boiled egg yolks are great for young birds like yours. Finely ground corn meal mixed well with plain unflavored greek yogurt can give them quite a bit of energy to get them going. I would suggest moving the feed trough away from the edge of the box as it appears in the photos. They way it appears prevents the chicks from easily accessing the stations of the far side of the trough and may cause pushing and jostling during feeding times. I hope this helps, welcome to the wonderful world of chickens!
