I have several breeds of ducks, including tamed wild Mallards and Buff Orpington ducks. This spring I am planning to cross them together, and I am curious as to what colors and shape they will be? Does anyone have experience with this cross, or have knowledge of duck genetics? Here are the ducks I would like to cross, in whatever order would make the most beautiful, whether a mallard drake and buff hen, or buff drake and mallard hen. Thank you!

No idea about this cross, but I am very interested to see if anyone else has any info. I have a buff girl and mallard boy, so this outcome is very possible if I plan on hatching any this year.

Just see if I get some. I don't breed for certain types. Just throw eggs from my mixed flock in the incubator and see what hatches

That must make some fun surprises!

It has. We have hatched four mutts so far, and based on their features and who was laying at the time, I can make a pretty good guess as to who their parents are.

Pekin/mallard (pretty certain)
400

Pekin/mallard (I think, but I I could use outside opinions)
400

Fawn & white runner/mallard (100% certain)
400

Fawn & white runner/mallard (very questionable as he doesn't have any runner shape to him, but the only females laying at the time his egg was laid were pekin, Cayuga, fawn&white runner and WH)
400

They are beautful! The first two look like rouens! The third one actually kind of looks like a Khaki Cambell color. Was his father a mallard or was his mother? The last one could be mallard/welshharlequin??? Can any of the hybrids fly?

The father of all of them is my one male mallard, Potato. I'm not sure who is the last one's mother. My best guess is the fawn/white runner because his colors are similar to the third one, who I'm positive is fawn & white runner/mallard. I just can't see where else he would get the gray head from. I'm pretty sure a mallard/WH mix would sport a green head, since both mallard and WH drakes have green heads. But he just doesn't have any runner shape to him whatsoever...maybe Cayuga? But wouldn't there be more black? He's an enigma for sure lol. And they did try flying when they were younger, but the three larger ones became too heavy and can't get off the ground very well. The third one is lighter and could fly, but we clipped them all just to be safe.

Oh, I didn't think about the green head. It could be Cayuga, genetics are pretty weird sometimes. By the second one, do you mean the female mallard colored one, or the fourth one, which is the second fawn/white runner cross? The fourth one looks pretty slim.
