Thank you NorthFLAChick! We had thought we would get only 2, but the coop we are looking at holds 2-4, so its something to think about!

I have been doing a great deal of research as far as what breed, but we havent decided yet. Can you recommend any friendly, heat and cold hardy breeds? We were talking about brown eggs, but arent set on that. Also, we were looking for one that wasn't extremely broody, and didnt mind being handled.

Some of the breeds that first come to my mind are: Black Australorps, hybrids (like the red or black sex links), Speckled Sussex and Plymouth Rocks. I'm sure others will have more recommendations. The thing to keep in mind, is every bird is different so you'll find some individual birds in each breed that don't quite "fit" the breed traits.
