Hi everyone I am new to the forum. I have just made an incubator and set 12 mixed courtonix eggs. I am housing the quail in a large aviary with budgies. The aviary is 12ftx8ft is that enough room for the 12 quail with plenty of hiding places?

Thanks michael

Hi Michael,

That's enough room for at least 100 quail, so you should be fine unless your quail eggs are as large as emu eggs. You probably won't get all 12 to hatch, though. A 90% success rate is quite good, though a few breeders I've spoken with say they get between 90-95% hatching rate. Good luck.

That's good news. I put 12 eggs in knowing not all of them would hatch I will be happy with at least 8 :) excited now only 18 days to go. Next to build the brooder. Using an old travel cot :)

Pics of your aviary? That sounds cool! I'd love to do something like that.

And be prepared- I planned on mine hatching on day 18 my first go around and the first one popped at the end of the 15th day! Messed me up on the New Years hatch along. Haha

I'm getting the brooder set up at the moment. The aviary isn't built yet I'm off work for 2 weeks next wee so I will build it then. All ready for when the quail can be put outside.
