Hands on hatching and help

Please meet Sweet Pea, the golden colored Cream Legbar rooster-to-be, and Yokel, the little dark Olive Egger and first to hatch, named after BYC's own @LocalYokel. They hatched yesterday and by last night had the nipple waterer figured out. I only hatch smart chicks!
:clap they're adorable :)
Lol, yea, when the kid's gerbils died my wife said no more rodents. She said no more dachshunds when we were looking at piebald doxies to name Hans So Low to be buddies with our blue long-haired boy named Indiana Bones (and of course Weenie and Deli, our black and tan and red females). Sooooo, the kids and I started collecting birds since we didn't have any restrictions on those yet, lol. I imagine after we get 30 ducks running around here were gonna get cut off on those too......
Hans So Low... :lau

I dunno why this seems so funny to me but I just checked the remaining runner eggs that were left in my incubator and found a couple that I thought were worthy of moving to the hatcher just in case (clear spots on the bottoms of the eggs are still pretty significant but I did see movement).  Checked my lone turkey egg while I was at it and low and behold we have an internal pip!  So now it is in the hatcher among 18 duck eggs.....

This turkey is probably doomed to a drowning death because it is going to hatch and be put in with at least 14 ducklings, possibly more depending on what hatches out of my hatcher, and unfortunately think it is a duck.  It's gonna think that it should throw itself into the nearest body of water and sadly find out that it cannot swim......  So that will take some effort on my part to prevent, but I have my very own "ugly duckling" story playing out here..... Except the ugly duckling (turkey) will really end up being ugly with it's bald, turkey face, LOL!

My 2 duck eggs from this morning with internal pips have now become external pips!!!  They are much bigger cracks than the first 4 ducklings I hatched so hopefully they are stronger and able to come out and surprise me in the morning!  Hope it happens before the kids go to school!!!

I incubated turkeys and ducks together last year. I only had 4 turkey eggs. One was clear, 2 quit during my mid-hatch 2-day power outage, but one hatched, along with 4 ducks. The ducks tormented the turkey after a couple of days, so I bought chicks from the feed store. The turkey and ducks never got along. Hope your luck interesting them is better!

Good luck with the hatch! Go duckies!!

Wow!!! Excellent hatch! You rock!!

Runners only got 12/21. Not so go

That's exactly how my new batch of call eggs look. The air cells look just like that. Loose and wobbly but not detached. I would be amazed if I got a hatch like Yours.

If I can, you can. I had no idea what I was doing. If it were not for this thread. Don't know what would have happened

Lol, I have a bunch of chocolate and blue runners incubating right now too!  I will definitely post some pictures soon.  Just got ten lil ducklings in today.  Got a Black runner, fawn n white runner, blue swedish, khaki campbell, Cayuga, a pair of magpies, a pair of buff orpingtons and one lil rouen female that they asked me to take home since it was the last one left.  Such cute lil guys and my four older ducklings took them right in today when I introduced them all.  Can't wait to get some more hatching and see what the anconas look like!

What a wonderful flock you will have. They colors will be incredible. It's really hard to tell color difference in hatchling runners. At least mine. They are a week old now and I can see some chocolate showing up. Good luck with your hatch.

I didn't know you had turkeys and guineas! And peas & ducks...wow, you've got your hands full! Oh and a baby in the way! That's amazing!
I'm sorry about the chick. Let me just say this, mine kept fighting for 3-4 days and it was terrible to watch. Each morning I would hope to find that it had passed overnight but it would still be laying there and peeping. I tried a bunch of different stuff but it's little lungs were full of the sticky stuff. In a way I am happy you did not have to go through that.

The guy on his back...is he in the brooder or the incubator still?
Great news!!
Oh my goodness!! I love it!!

You have to remind when lockdown is, is it Sunday or Monday? I hope my one egg hangs in there till then!!

Awesome!! I can't wait to see your and Amy's chicks!!
Sunday is day 18, but since I set at 10 pm, I may wait until Monday morning to do it as long as there is no internal pips or anything.

I just went to turn my last call egg before heading to bed for the night and it looks like veins have receded in one spot. A couple veins sloshed around when I moved the egg. All signs that it quit but I could still see the duck moving. Can veins start receding before the baby dies?
Yes, they can and they do and that's exactly what happened to the Spitz that quit at day 8 ish! I even took video of it because I was amazed it was still moving yet all the veins were almost gone. If I think about it a little later I will try to upload it to fb and tag you in it. I left it in until it was totally quit.

I can actually see that happening now that you mention it. Ducks are so mean to other birds and even each other. Sghetti, one of our 2 dad ducks to our first 4 that hatched, came running all the way across the yard to attack his babies when I took them outside to swim in the pond. That's okay though, whenever he tries to attack them I get a chance to grab him and pet him for his punishment. He will never let me get close to him otherwise to touch him, lol.

I do have 3 red bourbon turkeys coming but they won't be here until May 19th so this lil guy will have awhile before he gets friendly company.

If it's still moving, and not just when you move it, then it's still alive... just leave it in... I seriously cannot count how many Call eggs I thought were quitters that ended up hatching... I learned the hard way not to pull them too soon...

Well I shined the light into the egg this morning without touching it at all and the little guy was clearly moving around. It's just one small spot up near the air cell but I did see the sloshing last night which scares me!

I grew up with dachshunds! It's going to be a fun summer at your house!

Yes, I'd love to see that video.
