I also lost another serama last night (2nd one). 8 and 9 days old. Frail little things, they are. These were 2 of the smallest, and near the last to hatch. One other has me a bit concerned, but I think it will be ok. These 2 just seemed to not be thriving and growing. They also had pasty butt. Their navels weren't as closed up at hatch, they healed fine, but I think the scab would catch the poop and help build it up.
Sorry about your Serama chick
I hope the other one will make it. I haven't tried hatching those yet. I've been hesitant to try them but they sure are the cutest little things!
Lol I said I wasn't going to set anything either 😄 I made it 2 weeks I think.
It seems like lately my hatches have yielded much more males than females My last Marans hatch April 1st, out of 13 chicks only 4 were females, and my mottled Cochins I've got 5 girls of those 13 chicks 😕 So I've got lots of boys to try to find homes for.
After I bought all these Splash Marans eggs in my bator to get a group of splash ladies for my Splash rooster, I discovered he is also producing Birchen males (so he's carrying part silver part gold Birchen gene). So instead of splash females, I need to get him some Birchen ladies. Problem now is, husband has declared no more hatching until he has more time to build on to our breeder pens
